We provide statistical input before ethics, grant or manuscript submission. This includes review of study design, research questions, objectives, primary and secondary outcomes, exposure and covariate definitions, feasibility, bias, confounding, missing data and proposed statistical methods. The aim is to help make your protocol clearer, stronger and more defensible.
We provide sample size and power calculations with clear assumptions and protocol-ready justification. This may include advice on effect sizes, outcome measures, comparison groups, statistical tests or models, attrition allowance, feasibility and interpretation. For pilot or feasibility studies, we can help develop an appropriate statistical justification where formal power calculation may not be suitable.
We develop clear, pre-specified statistical analysis plans aligned with your study objectives, outcomes and design. SAPs may include analysis populations, outcome definitions, descriptive summaries, primary and secondary analyses, model specifications, subgroup or sensitivity analyses, missing data handling, table shells and figure plans. This helps ensure the analysis is transparent before results are examined.
We analyse de-identified health and research datasets using appropriate statistical methods. This may include descriptive statistics, regression modelling, longitudinal or repeated-measures analysis, survival analysis, subgroup analysis and visualisation. Outputs can include statistical tables, figures, analysis code and plain-language interpretation suitable for reports, abstracts or manuscripts.
We support researchers preparing journal articles, reports, abstracts and reviewer responses. This includes strengthening statistical methods and results sections, checking consistency between objectives, methods, tables and conclusions, improving statistical wording, preparing publication-ready tables and figures, and advising on additional or sensitivity analyses where needed.
We help prepare datasets for analysis by reviewing data dictionaries, variable coding, outcome and exposure definitions, missing data patterns and data structure. This service is useful for REDCap, Excel, registry or survey datasets that need to be cleaned, coded and organised before analysis begins.
For privacy and governance reasons, identifiable patient or participant data should not be sent by ordinary email. HealthStats Consulting Australia works preferably with de-identified data and encourages researchers to follow the relevant ethics, governance and data security requirements for their project.
